WINDY CITY NEW YEAR 2022

Although I began cubing in the fall of my sixth grade year in 2019, I have officially (and finally) been immersed into the world of cubing! After watching many videos on YouTube of world records and fun competitions, I finally decided to give the competitive cubing experience a try. This competition was set to start at 8pm and end at 5am, so it was going to be a long night. I decided to compete in the 3x3, 2x2, 4x4, and the Skewb. Since it was my first time ever competing, I had a lot of nerves, and a few of my solves were slow or incomplete. Luckily, I was guaranteed an automatic best single and average time in every single event because it was my first ever competition! At midnight we all watched the New Year’s ball drop which I found very fun. Most of the competitors (including me) got together to take photos and celebrate, while parents and other spectators gathered together to raise a toast to 2022. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the cutoff time for the 4x4, thus limiting me to 2 solves and preventing me from getting a full average from 5 solves. For the next time I compete, I hope I can make the cutoff and improve on all of my times from this competition. Much more room for improvement, but an absolute blast joining the cubing (more specifically, the World Cube Association) community for a journey with much more to come!
